Our Next Adventure(s)
So, our 2nd official book club meeting is complete! The African food was delicious and the conversation was passionate. Our immediate goal as individuals (and as a book club) is to take the personal initiative to speak out about a (global) issue we feel needs a voice and support, within the next month. The issue could be HIV / AIDS in Africa or it could be something else. Speaking out could come in the form of writing a letter to a politician, calling a local politician, starting a petition, organizing a protest/rally; or anything else that will make a statement in some way, shape or form. Every single one of us is capable of at least this much.
Our next book club meeting will be held on Thursday, July 27th at 7pm at Rachel's house, with Jenn as host. Our next book is Blindness by Jose Saramago. Jessica is performing in a concert on Wednesday, July 26th at 8pm. For more information visit www.londonearlyopera.ca.
Lastly, I am beginning to brainstorm about a possible fundraiser gala event to support the fight against HIV / AIDS in Africa. If you are at all interested in helping out with this, then any and all of your thoughts would be appreciated. Visit the following websites for more information about the cause: www.stephenlewisfoundation.org, www.unaids.org, www.aids2006.org.

Thanks for the great discussion on Race Against Time everyone, and ditto about the introduction to a new type of cuisine - I only wish I could have eaten more! :-)
I think it was a great suggestion to work on doing something active in the community before the next meeting. Thanks Rach for getting the ball rolling for the galla evening. I will offer assistance in anyway I can; I can offer free postage for any mailing of invites if that helps, as well as my time at the event. I unfortunately do not have near the community contacts that a few of you do, in terms of "the wealthy" members of London (or the talented ones), or even the business contacts for donating door prizes and raffle prizes etc. But just let me know what you need and I'll be there!
The Stephen Lewis website is really interesting. If any of you haven't checked it out yet, I recommend it.
Cheers!
